TransCanada is holding an information session on pipeline safety and emergency planning on Thursday, November 6th from 4:00pm-8:00pm. The Open House will take place at Saint John Exhibition Association, Building 1, 37 McAllister Drive, Saint John, New Brunswick. This will be a trade show-style Open House that allow only one-on-one questions unlike a public meeting that allows a collective Q&A session for the audience. TransCanada advertises, "You will have the opportunity to speak with TransCanada experts and see live demonstrations."People are encouraged to rally outside with signs, hand out information outside on Energy East, as well as circulating inside asking critical questions.
Some great questions include:
Is the proposed location of the tank farm too close to the residential community of Red Head?
Will this put both firefighters and residents at greater risk and in harm's way?
Will spill cleanup not use oil dispersants like those used in the Gulf of Mexico spill - petroleum solvents which make the oil spill sink and more toxic - and instead have mechanical spill cleanup equipment on standby for quick mobilization against a spill?
How will emergency services be able to quickly evacuate the population of greater Saint John in the event of a fire at the Red Head tank farm?
Will residents and afffected landowners be allowed to sit and observe TransCanada's Community Liaison Committee meetings?
